Cohere targets up to C$7 billion in Series E funding round
Canadian enterprise AI company Cohere has announced the first close of its Series E, aiming for up to C$7 billion at a potential valuation of C$35.7 billion.

Cohere, the Canadian artificial intelligence company focused exclusively on businesses and government agencies, has announced the first close of its Series E funding round. The round aims to raise up to 7 billion Canadian dollars, roughly 4.5 billion euros, at a potential valuation of 35.7 billion Canadian dollars, close to 23 billion euros.
The announcement was made on 29 October 2026 on the occasion of the Canada-European Union summit, a timing that underlines the political dimension of the deal.
Betting on secure and sovereign AI
The company is positioning the raise as a way to capitalise on growing global demand for secure and sovereign AI services. Unlike consumer-facing rivals, Cohere sells only to enterprises and public administrations, a niche where data control and national autonomy are increasingly decisive purchase criteria.
The figures describe a target rather than a final total: the first close marks the start of the round, and the 7 billion Canadian dollar amount is the upper limit the company is aiming for. The valuation is likewise described as potential.
Why it matters
If completed at the stated scale, the round would rank Cohere among the most highly valued AI companies outside the United States and give it significant resources to compete in the market for enterprise models. It also reflects how governments and large organisations in Europe and North America are looking for alternatives to US-based AI providers.
Further closings are expected to determine how much of the targeted amount the company ultimately secures.
