Apple on Tuesday released the first beta of Xcode 27.3, its development environment for iPhone, iPad and Mac apps. The update adds three features: GitHub Copilot support in the built-in coding assistant, the ability to test Siri AI integration in apps, and additional APIs for optimizing software for the upcoming MacBook Pro models with touchscreens.

Copilot joins the coding assistant

The most immediate change for everyday work is GitHub Copilot support inside Xcode's built-in coding assistant. Developers who already rely on Copilot can now use it within the assistant that ships with Apple's own tools, instead of switching to a separate environment. Because this is the first beta of the 27.3 cycle, the implementation may still change before a final release.

Preparing for Siri AI and touchscreen Macs

The second addition lets developers test how their apps work with Siri AI integration. Having that testing available in Xcode gives app makers a way to check their work before the feature reaches a wider audience.

The third addition looks further ahead. Apple is providing extra APIs that developers can use to optimize their apps for the upcoming MacBook Pro models with touchscreens. The company is therefore handing developers the tools to prepare for the new hardware before it arrives, which should help apps feel at home on it from the start.

What it means for developers

Taken together, the three features show where Apple is steering its platform: AI assistance in the coding workflow, deeper AI integration through Siri, and a Mac lineup that is set to include touch input. Developers who want to be ready for these changes can install the beta and begin experimenting now.

As with any first beta, it is a pre-release build meant for testing. Later betas will show how Apple refines these features ahead of the final Xcode 27.3 release.
