Apple Reportedly Raises iPhone Duo Orders 44% to 14 Million
Apple has reportedly told suppliers to build 14 million iPhone Duo units, up from 9.7 million, after strong pre-orders for its first foldable iPhone.

Apple has reportedly increased its iPhone Duo production target by about 44%, from 9.7 million to 14 million units, after strong pre-orders for its first foldable iPhone. The report comes from DigiTimes, which cites supply chain sources, and was summarized by MacRumors.
According to those sources, Foxconn and component manufacturers have received instructions reflecting the higher figure. The new target reportedly covers a full 12-month period, not just the remainder of 2026.
Demand outpaces supply
Apple said last week that demand was "nothing short of extraordinary." Within 30 minutes of pre-orders opening on October 16, U.S. shipping estimates had slipped to January 25 across all configurations.
Hitting the higher number may not be simple. DigiTimes said output will depend on how assembly progresses, following earlier reports of manufacturing difficulties involving assembly, displays and hinges.
A bigger foldable market
DigiTimes forecasts that global foldable smartphone shipments will grow 25.7% in 2026 and 59.1% in 2027, compared with 7.4% growth in 2025. Apple's entry into the category is expected to help drive that expansion.
For buyers, the practical message is that supply is likely to stay tight for now, and anyone who has not yet ordered should expect long waits. The larger production run could ease that over time, but only if suppliers resolve the reported hinge and display issues.
The iPhone Duo goes on sale on October 23, with pricing starting at $1,999 in the United States. Whether Apple can turn the pre-order surge into steady deliveries will be an early test of how quickly foldables can move from niche product to mainstream device.
