Anthropic IPO Filing Lifts Tech as Bitcoin Holds Near $80,000
Tech shares rallied after Anthropic's IPO filing, while Bitcoin hovered near $80,000. Meta unveiled a $95 billion share sale and Microsoft offered buyouts.

Technology stocks rallied on Monday after Anthropic filed for an initial public offering, with the AI company seeking to raise as much as $100 billion. Bitcoin traded near $80,000 as risk appetite improved across markets.
The size of the Anthropic raise stands out even among the large funding rounds that have defined the AI boom. It signals how much capital the industry expects to need for the computing power and research behind frontier models.
Meta also taps investors
Meta announced a $95 billion share sale on the same day to fund its own AI ambitions. Together, the two deals point to AI developers and the big platforms turning to public markets for money on a scale rarely seen before.
For investors, the pairing raises questions about how the market will absorb such large offerings, but Monday's price action suggested enthusiasm rather than hesitation.
Microsoft offers buyouts
The spending push is running alongside cost discipline. Microsoft is reportedly offering voluntary buyouts to about 60,000 employees, in the latest round of cost-cutting at big tech companies. Regulatory filings show the company had 223,000 employees worldwide as of June 30, down from 228,000 at the end of 2025.
Microsoft has recently combined layoffs and voluntary programs to trim staff, but none has approached this size. In a Monday memo, Chief People Officer Amy Coleman wrote that the Voluntary Exit Offer reflects how the company is "evolving our approach to change: creating greater flexibility and, where possible, more ways for employees to shape their next chapter."
What it means
The day's news captures the two sides of the current AI cycle: record capital raising to build capacity, and workforce reductions as companies reshape their cost base. Bitcoin's position near $80,000 shows crypto trading in step with the broader risk mood. Markets will now watch how Anthropic's offering progresses and how many Microsoft employees accept the buyouts.
