AWS posted $46 billion in third-quarter revenue, up 39.3% year on year, its fastest growth in almost five years as demand for AI infrastructure keeps climbing.

Amazon Web Services recorded its strongest growth in nearly five years in the third quarter of 2026, as the race to build artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to benefit the biggest cloud providers.

AWS generated $46 billion in revenue in the quarter ended September 30, a 39.3% increase from a year earlier, according to Amazon's quarterly results.

The cloud giants share one trend

Amazon is the latest of the major cloud players to report, following Microsoft and Google. Taken together, the three sets of results point in the same direction: demand for computing capacity linked to AI is accelerating, and it is showing up directly in cloud revenue.

For AWS, the significance lies in both size and pace. Growing 39.3% on a base of $46 billion in a single quarter is the fastest rate the unit has achieved in almost five years. That suggests demand is speeding up rather than levelling off.

Why it matters

For businesses that rely on cloud services, the figures confirm that AI workloads are becoming a central driver of infrastructure spending. For investors, they show that Amazon's growing bet on AI is translating into results in its cloud division, one of the company's key businesses.

The quarter also reinforces the picture of a market in which Amazon, Microsoft and Google are all benefiting from the same wave of investment. How long that momentum lasts will depend on whether customers keep increasing their AI spending at the current pace, which the next quarterly reports will begin to show.
