YouTube Tests 30-Day Grace Period Before Banning Channels

YouTube is testing a 30-day window that lets some creators fix spam policy violations instead of facing immediate, permanent channel termination.

YouTube is testing a new approach that gives some creators a chance to save their channels from permanent termination. Eligible creators get up to 30 days to remove or edit violating videos before the platform makes a final decision.

The experiment was announced on 29 October 2026. It targets channels that would otherwise be shut down immediately over specific violations of YouTube's spam policy. Instead of losing access at once, qualifying channels enter a temporary 30-day restriction.

What creators can do

Channel owners are notified by email and in YouTube Studio on desktop, with details of the restrictions and the options available. During the period they cannot upload new videos or post comments, but they have three routes back.

The first is to review their content and use YouTube Studio tools, including the video editor, to edit or delete the offending videos. The second is to delete every video previously uploaded, which unlocks the channel immediately. This lets creators start over while keeping their subscribers, channel name and YouTube Partner Program status.

The third is to file an appeal if the owner believes the channel was flagged by mistake and complies with the rules. Creators who edit or delete individual videos by hand must have those changes reviewed before the channel is reopened. If the review is rejected, they can still delete all videos, provided they remain within the original 30-day window.

Limits of the test

Channels will be permanently closed if owners do not fix the violations or take no action within 30 days. The test covers only certain types of spam policy violations, not every offense that can lead to a ban.

YouTube has not said when the system might roll out more widely, or whether other types of policy violations will receive the same treatment. For now, the trial is limited to channels that meet the conditions of the new policy.
