Tesla Launches V2L Power Adapter in Japan for ¥15,000
Tesla has announced a V2L adapter for Japan that lets owners run home appliances from the car's battery. It is due in January 2027 at a planned ¥15,000.

Tesla has announced a V2L (vehicle-to-load) power adapter for the Japanese market. Plugged into the car's charge port, it lets owners run household appliances from the vehicle's battery. Sales are planned for January 2027, with a price of ¥15,000 (planned).
The product is already available elsewhere. A similar adapter for the Model Y L appeared in Tesla's official store in China in November 2025, and compatible models are covered by comparable products in the United States.
Camping and blackout use
According to Tesla Japan, domestic customers have repeatedly asked to use the car's electricity during power outages and disasters. The adapter is aimed at those needs, and at leisure use too.
At a campsite, it could power an electric kettle, a hot plate for grilling or an electric blanket on cold nights, widening the options at sites without power hookups. During a blackout, it can supply lighting, a kettle and phone charging.
The company says the Model Y L can store roughly the amount of electricity an average household uses in about eight days. In phone terms, that equals more than 4,000 smartphone charges.
Limited compatibility
Buyers should check the vehicle list first. The adapter works only with three models: the new Model 3, the new Model Y and the Model Y L, all of which went on sale on October 23, 2026. Older Tesla vehicles are not supported.
For Japanese owners, the adapter turns the car's large battery into something close to a big mobile power bank, which matters in a country where disaster preparedness is a constant consideration. The ¥15,000 price is still listed as planned, so the final figure will be confirmed closer to the January 2027 launch.
