Martı founder Oğuz Alper Öktem has introduced RoboMartı, a driverless vehicle service that combines AI-powered autonomous cars with a shared-ride model. The project brings a technology long associated with the United States and China onto Türkiye's transport agenda.

According to the announcement, nobody sits behind the wheel of a RoboMartı vehicle. The car relies on high-resolution cameras, lidar and radar sensors to perceive its surroundings in 360 degrees. Its AI system is designed to analyze traffic lights, pedestrians, other vehicles and road conditions, and to make driving decisions based on them.

A bet on the future of urban mobility

The launch comes while some of the world's largest technology companies are competing in driverless transport. Öktem, who built Martı around changing shared-mobility habits, now aims to extend that approach to autonomous vehicles and position the company as a pioneer in the field locally.

Öktem said: “With RoboMartı, we have taken the first step toward the future of driverless transport in Türkiye. Our goal is to bring AI-driven driverless vehicles together with shared rides and start a new era in transport.” He added that the successful completion of test drives shows how far the technology has come and demonstrates Martı's leadership in this area.

What to watch

The material released so far does not say when RoboMartı will be open to the public, in which cities it will operate, how many vehicles will be deployed, or how it will be priced. It also does not detail the regulatory approvals required for driverless vehicles on public roads. Öktem said the company will continue its work to shape the future of transport in Türkiye, so further details on the rollout are likely to follow.
