Razorpay Gets Sebi Approval for Rs 5,000-6,000 Crore IPO
Indian fintech Razorpay has received Sebi's go-ahead for an IPO of roughly Rs 5,000-6,000 crore, reportedly targeting a valuation of about $5 billion.

Razorpay has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) for an initial public offering expected to raise between Rs 5,000 crore and Rs 6,000 crore. The payments company is reportedly aiming for a valuation of around $5 billion.
The clearance follows Razorpay's submission of draft IPO papers to the regulator through the confidential route in June. That filing route lets a company begin the review process without publicly disclosing detailed financials at the outset, and it marked the start of the company's effort to tap the public markets.
What the approval means
Sebi's nod removes a key regulatory hurdle and allows Razorpay to move toward a listing. The company can now decide on timing, depending on market conditions and its own preparations. Details such as the exact size of the issue, the split between fresh capital and shares sold by existing investors, and the price band have not been provided in the material available.
An issue of this scale would place Razorpay among the more prominent Indian fintech listings. For the country's startup ecosystem, a successful debut would offer another data point on how public investors value digital payments businesses, and could encourage other late-stage startups weighing a stock market route.
What comes next
The next step is typically the filing of an updated offer document with details of the offering, followed by roadshows and the announcement of the price band. Razorpay has not yet confirmed a listing date.
