Meta Plans $15 Billion Bond Sale to Fund AI Investments
Meta has told the SEC it will borrow $15 billion through a US bond sale to finance its AI buildout, and a euro offering could lift the total to at least $20 billion.

Meta is raising $15 billion in debt to pay for its artificial intelligence push, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp will sell bonds to investors in the United States. Buyers of the bonds effectively lend money to Meta, which pays interest on a set schedule and returns the principal at maturity.
Five tranches, maturities up to 30 years
The sale is split into five bond groups with maturities ranging from 5 to 30 years, meaning Meta will spread repayment over time instead of settling everything on one date. The company is also expected to sell euro-denominated bonds. Across the two transactions, total financing is expected to reach at least $20 billion.
Why Meta is borrowing
The driver is the cost of scaling AI infrastructure. Meta expects capital expenditure of $135 billion to $145 billion this year, largely tied to AI. Spending on data centers and computing capacity is pushing big technology companies to look for new sources of funding.
This is not Meta's first such deal. It sold $25 billion of bonds in April and raised $30 billion the same way last year. The company has also expanded a share sale program that could reach $97.5 billion. The difference matters: with bonds, Meta borrows and owes repayment, while with a share sale it gives up ownership stakes in exchange for capital.
Moody's assigned the new bonds an Aa3 credit rating. The agency expects Meta's cash holdings to remain above its debt despite rising spending, a sign that investors still view the company's balance sheet as solid even as the AI bill grows.
