Ravical, a startup building an AI platform for accounting and tax firms, announced on October 29 that it has raised $17 million in a seed round led by MMC Ventures. Existing investors Lakestar and Pitchdrive took part, as did new backer Shapers. The company did not disclose its valuation.

Total funding now stands at $25 million. The money will go toward strengthening operations in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, expanding into other European markets and entering the United States. According to the company, more than 100 European accounting firms already use the platform.

A model under pressure

Ravical argues that the traditional accounting model, growing by hiring people and selling their knowledge, is under strain. Demand for services keeps rising, yet fewer graduates enter the profession and experienced hires are harder to find. At the same time, AI can handle much work that once required staff, and expertise is a search away for clients and competitors alike. The company's own research found that 70% of UK small businesses act on AI advice without consulting an accountant.

In Ravical's view, what still sets a firm apart is how its best people judge, advise and finish work. But in most firms that expertise stays with individuals and reaches only their own clients. The platform turns top performers' methods into shared procedures that AI then runs across every client. Personal AI tools only speed up one person, the company says, while Ravical aims to lift the capability of the whole firm.

Four core features

The product centers on four modules. Signal continuously reads emails, documents, transactions and client interactions to surface revenue opportunities. Workflows gathers client context, executes steps, brings in the right specialists and pauses where an adviser must decide. Price sets fees based on a firm's past results, rate cards and advice, charging for outcomes rather than hours. Control gives management a single view of how AI is used, what it costs and what value it creates.

The company says preparation is finished by the time a user logs on, with reasoning shown, so advisers can focus on review, correction and approval. UK firm Gascoynes reports that it now handles complex work such as inheritance tax and R&D tax relief claims in-house, work it previously referred out, and that tax planning fees rose 49% year on year, almost all from existing clients.
