OpenAI GPT 6.1 models heading to Google Cloud and Antigravity

Google Cloud will add OpenAI's GPT 6 and 6.1 models Astra, Sol and Luna in the coming weeks, and GPT is also set to join the Antigravity coding tool.

OpenAI's latest frontier models are coming to Google Cloud. Under a new arrangement between the two companies, the GPT 6 and 6.1 family, made up of Astra, Sol and Luna, will join Google's Model Garden in the coming weeks. GPT models are also set to appear in Antigravity, Google's agent-powered coding tool.

What enterprises get

The Model Garden already lists more than 200 options, including Google's Gemini, open models such as Mistral, Llama and Gemma, and Anthropic's Claude. Google now says it is the only large cloud provider offering all three leading closed LLMs. OpenAI stresses that Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.

The OpenAI models will run entirely on Google's infrastructure, with billing handled through the Google Cloud Marketplace. Companies with existing Google Cloud spending commitments can therefore switch to GPT models without a separate procurement process. Astra is expected to be the most expensive to run, but Google's platform can move workloads between models based on performance, latency and efficiency.

As Ars Technica reports, all three models are rolling out in private preview for select enterprise customers. Interested companies can request early access, which works through the API even for users of Codex CLI or Codex Desktop. Inference simply runs on Google's systems.

Antigravity and the Gemini question

Individual developers may benefit too. Until now, Antigravity has supported Gemini and Claude. GPT models will be added, though Google has not said whether all three OpenAI models will appear.

The timing is notable. Google recently launched Gemini 4 Argon across its products, which it presents as bringing its flagship back to parity with rivals. It appears to improve on Gemini 3.1 Pro, but it reportedly consumes tokens at a very high rate. For customers unconvinced by Argon, the OpenAI deal adds another alternative alongside Claude.
