OpenAI to Bring ChatGPT Work Into Regular ChatGPT Chats

OpenAI plans to test a ChatGPT experience that merges conversation and task execution, letting users build sites, slides and handle files without switching modes.

OpenAI is preparing to fold ChatGPT Work capabilities into ordinary ChatGPT conversations. Users will be able to move from asking questions and discussing ideas to carrying out tasks such as building websites and presentations or working with files, without switching between separate modes.

According to a message OpenAI sent to subscribers, the company intends to test the combined experience over the coming weeks. It will start with a limited group of users before widening access. The test lets people attach files, use plugins and direct ChatGPT to perform work on the web, while they keep the ability to review results and steer how the task proceeds.

One context instead of two steps

The idea merges two stages that users have handled separately: first discussing what is needed and defining the details, then handing the job to the system to carry out with the available tools and files. Keeping both in one place could let people finish work in the same context rather than re-explaining instructions in another environment.

OpenAI has not yet said the test will reach all subscribers. Codex will also remain a separate experience inside the ChatGPT desktop app.

Shared usage credit for Pro

The change also covers usage limits. On Pro plans, ChatGPT and Codex will draw from a single shared credit balance, so tasks run by either service count toward the same pool. Unlimited Instant usage is excluded from this accounting, while advanced models and complex tasks consume more credit depending on the work involved. Subscribers will be able to see what remains and when it renews in the usage settings.

Separately, a doubling of Work and Codex limits for some Pro plans already took effect on October 29. That step is independent of the upcoming merged experience.
