Netflix Tests AI Discover for Mood-Based Recommendations
Netflix is testing AI Discover, a TV-app feature that suggests films and series based on mood or situation and learns from user feedback in real time.

Netflix is testing a new AI-powered recommendation feature called AI Discover. It suggests films and series that fit a viewer's current mood or situation, and it learns from the feedback it receives.
For now, the test is limited to the TV app and selected users in the United States. Viewers pick from themes such as "Something light", "Family night" or "Short films". If nothing fits, they can keep searching in more specific topic areas. Clicking "Something different" brings up fresh suggestions, and an "Adjust recommendations" button lets users train the AI on their own tastes.
Netflix says its AI reacts to feedback in real time and keeps learning, so suggestions should gradually adapt to each person. Until now, recommendations relied mainly on ratings and viewing behavior. Those with access will see a "Discover" button with a red gem icon in the top navigation bar of the TV app.
Engagement under pressure
The test comes as Netflix's growth is cooling. Revenue still rose in the third quarter of 2026, but at the slowest pace in three years. Internal analyses reportedly show that subscribers log in on fewer days per month and spend less time on the service than a few years ago. Some observers trace the downturn to the 2022 crackdown on password sharing.
To win back attention, Netflix plans to expand its offering with content such as podcasts and live sports broadcasts. AI Discover fits that strategy, and the company says it is working on further similar features to boost streaming activity.
What comes next
Netflix describes AI Discover as an experiment for now. It is unclear whether it will become a regular feature for all users, and there is no indication of whether or when it might reach Germany or other markets.
