Instagram Edits Arrives on Mac With Multi-Track Editing and 4K
Instagram has launched a free Mac version of Edits with a multi-track timeline, advanced color grading, direct publishing to Instagram and watermark-free 4K export.

Instagram has launched Edits on desktop, bringing its free video editing app to the Mac with a larger workspace, finer editing controls and keyboard shortcuts that can be customized to match other video editors.
The company says the move responds to a common creator complaint: projects outgrow the phone. With a dozen clips in play, a thumb often covers the part of the timeline you need to see while you try to land a cut on the beat. The desktop app is meant to handle those more ambitious projects.
Editing tools
Edits for Mac offers a full multi-track timeline, keyframes for transitions and precise audio waveforms. Splitting, cutting and trimming clips are simpler than on mobile. Color grading tools include color wheels, curves and log conversions.
Users can import their own LUTs and fonts and access Instagram's licensed audio library. The app also includes unlimited automatic captions in multiple languages and hundreds of sound and video effects, all free.
Publishing and export
Videos can be published straight to Instagram, with support for native features such as tagging, location and trial reels. Edits also supports horizontal and vertical aspect ratios and exports in 4K without a watermark, so clips can be shared on any platform or used for personal projects.
What is still missing
Saved audio and text styles from the mobile app are already available on desktop. Editing the same project seamlessly across Mac and phone is still in development, so for now the two versions do not share work in progress.
Instagram says the desktop app will get weekly updates, like the mobile version, and is asking users for feedback to shape future improvements.
