TVPort brings native Nintendo Switch games to Apple TV 4K
A Reddit user has released TVPort, an open source tool built with help from Claude that runs Switch games natively on the Apple TV 4K, with mixed performance.

A Reddit user going by FloatingFalafel has released TVPort, an open source tool that runs Nintendo Switch games natively on the Apple TV 4K. It is an adaptation of nxnative, a project that already ran more than a hundred Switch titles on iPhone, iPad and Mac, without an emulator and without Nintendo's approval. The living-room box was the missing piece.
How it works
A Mac app converts a game the user owns into an Apple TV app, then installs it on the box. The developer says he used Claude Opus 5.5, Anthropic's AI model, during the work.
No software imitates the console. The game's code runs directly on the A15 chip of the third-generation Apple TV 4K, and its graphics are rebuilt with Metal, Apple's graphics technology.
Early results
Performance varies widely. Super Mario Odyssey runs at 60 frames per second, with some stutter and audio problems near waterfalls. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is capped at 30 frames per second, and no bugs have been reported.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom only holds that 30 fps pace with resolution cut to 75%, and the box heats up enough to throttle.
What comes next
The developer warns that some games will require the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K and its 8 GB of RAM. The heaviest titles, Zelda among them, may never run properly on the earlier model.
For now TVPort is a proof of concept for tinkerers rather than a mainstream gaming option. It does show that Apple's streaming box has enough power to run demanding console code, even if cooling and memory limit what it can do.
