Google Gemini Lets Friends Appear Together in AI Avatar Videos
Google is adding a social layer to Gemini avatars, letting users share them with friends and appear together in AI-generated images and videos.

Google is expanding the AI avatar feature in its Gemini app with a social twist: users can now share their avatars with friends and appear together in AI-generated images and videos.
The feature starts with a personal avatar built from a short recording of the user's face and voice. Gemini uses that data as a reference to recreate the person's appearance and voice in the content it generates.
How sharing works
Once an avatar is set up, users can mention it in their conversations with Gemini. They can also use the avatars of friends who have agreed to share them, which makes it possible to create content featuring several people without filming any real footage.
Google says users stay in full control of sharing. An invitation is sent to another person by email address, and that person can accept or decline it. Access can be revoked at any time.
Limits and availability
The feature requires users to be at least 18 years old and to have a personal Google account. For now it supports English only, and it is not available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the United Kingdom.
The move reflects Google's effort to make its AI tools more interactive and social. Avatars shift from a way to make solo content into a tool that lets friends show up and interact together inside AI-generated media.
The consent-based design, with invitations and revocable access, is notable given how sensitive it is to reproduce a person's face and voice with AI.
