Getir CEO Targets Faster Grocery Baskets as Uber Handover Proceeds

Getir CEO Batuhan Gultakan says personalized ready-made baskets can cut basket building from 12 minutes to 1.5–2 minutes, as the Uber transfer of GetirYemek moves ahead.

Getir wants to shrink the time users spend building a grocery basket in its app from 12 minutes to between 1.5 and 2 minutes. CEO Batuhan Gultakan outlined the goal in an interview at the company's office, where he also discussed the role of AI in shopping and the transfer process with Uber.

Personalized baskets instead of endless searching

According to research shared in the conversation, a comprehensive weekly grocery shop takes an average of 111 minutes. Repeated every week, that adds up to roughly 96 hours a year, or four full days.

Gultakan said Getir is shortening the steps of searching for products, comparing them and assembling a basket by offering personalized, ready-made basket suggestions. Users stay in control: they can remove items from the suggested basket and swap brands.

The central message of the interview is that giving users their time back is a product value in itself. The aim is to meet a customer's need as quickly as possible so that the time saved can be spent elsewhere.

GetirYemek handover to Uber

The final part of the interview covered the handover of GetirYemek to Uber. Gultakan also addressed the next phase planned for Getir's other services, which depends on the process and its conditions. No further details on timing or scope of that phase were provided.

Why it matters

Quick commerce competition is increasingly about reducing friction rather than only delivery speed. By using AI-driven recommendations to compress the most time-consuming part of grocery shopping, Getir is betting that a faster in-app experience will keep users coming back, even as its ownership and service structure changes through the Uber deal.

What happens to the remaining Getir services will depend on how the transfer process and its terms develop.
