FMV has launched the Keyboard X, a low-profile keyboard that brings magnetic switches, a feature common in gaming keyboards, to a model aimed mainly at office work. It also uses a layout designed for Japanese users.

The layout is not a perfect JIS standard. According to the description, it is the arrangement Fujitsu and FCCL refined over years of building Japanese notebook PCs. That matters in a market where many stylish keyboards from overseas brands ship only with a US layout.

The magnetic switches let users change the actuation point, and the keyboard supports a rapid trigger function. Both are usually associated with gamers, but the appeal extends to anyone who wants fast, reliable typing.

One small detail stands out in the lower right corner. The cursor keys are compact but still leave enough room between them, a choice that should help people with larger fingers avoid mistypes.

Price and availability

The Keyboard X first gained popularity as a crowdfunding project, so many buyers have reportedly been waiting for a general release. The regular price is 33,000 yen, with a limited-time price of 29,700 yen.

For Japanese users who want a modern low-profile magnetic keyboard without giving up a familiar layout, the model fills a gap that imported designs often leave open.
