FCCL FMV Mouse X Puts a Side Scroll Wheel Right Under Your Thumb

FCCL's FMV Mouse X places its side scroll wheel exactly where the thumb naturally rests, targeting users who scroll horizontally in spreadsheets and wide windows.

FCCL has introduced the FMV Mouse X, a mouse built around horizontal scrolling. Alongside the usual center wheel for vertical movement, it has a side scroll wheel for moving left and right within a window, placed where the thumb naturally lands when you rest your hand on the mouse.

That placement is the main selling point. Earlier mice with side scroll wheels have typically put them slightly off from the thumb's resting position, and many of those designs gave priority to side buttons instead. The FMV Mouse X reverses that priority and puts horizontal scrolling first.

Shaped for Japanese hands

The shape was designed around Japanese hand sizes. High-end mice from Western manufacturers are often tuned to Western builds, which can leave buttons and wheels feeling a little far away. FCCL's design aims to avoid that problem.

The mouse also uses magnetic switches and a magnetic wheel, which are meant to reduce double-click chattering and malfunctions. It looks like the maker studied what makes existing good mice good and carried those lessons over.

A trade-off for creative users

Because the ideal thumb and finger positions are limited in space, the DPI switching button sits on the back of the mouse rather than on top. People doing creative work may prefer to change DPI from a switch on the upper surface, so this layout will not suit everyone. Designing a device for all users is clearly difficult.

For people who work in wide Excel sheets or other horizontally scrolling applications, though, the trade-off looks worthwhile. The FMV Mouse X appears to be a near-perfect fit for anyone who prioritizes sideways scrolling in daily work.
