Anthropic becomes SpaceX's largest customer with 34.5% of revenue

Anthropic accounted for 34.5% of SpaceX's third-quarter 2026 revenue, overtaking the US government as the company's biggest customer, with contracts worth up to $120.5 billion.

Anthropic, the developer of Claude, has become SpaceX's largest customer. According to a SpaceX statement made last week, a single customer of its artificial intelligence unit, now called Super Intelligence, generated 34.5% of the company's revenue in the third quarter of 2026. In the documents the buyer is listed as "Customer B", and Bloomberg identified it as Anthropic.

The payments exceed those from the US government, which had long been considered SpaceX's main client. Anthropic rents computing capacity in SpaceX data centers in Tennessee under agreements signed earlier this year. It has committed to spend up to $120.5 billion on Elon Musk's infrastructure under contracts running through 2029, and from December its outlays could reach about $3.1 billion a month.

AI unit turns a profit

The deal has paid off for SpaceX: its AI business has become profitable for the first time. That supports Musk's goal of lifting annual revenue to $100 billion by the end of 2026.

The concentration carries risk, though. Bloomberg reports that Anthropic could terminate the agreement as early as next year.

Two customers, more than half of revenue

In the third quarter SpaceX had only two customers that each contributed more than 10% of revenue. The second accounted for 16.6%, and Bloomberg suggests it may be a group of government agencies. Musk has also forecast that NASA, once among SpaceX's biggest partners, will represent less than 5% of 2026 revenue.

The growth is being financed with debt. SpaceX struck a roughly $40 billion deal with investment firm Apollo Global Management to fund chip purchases for its AI business. A day earlier, Musk said on X that a $40 billion debt transaction had closed, with the proceeds earmarked for Nvidia GPUs.
