Anthropic expands Claude watermarking to AI text from Nov. 3
Anthropic is widening its tool for marking Claude-generated material from 3 November. It estimates whether AI wrote a text, but cannot deliver a definitive verdict.

Anthropic is extending the reach of its system for identifying content produced by Claude, with the expanded scope taking effect on 3 November. The tool is meant to help determine whether a particular piece of material was likely written by the AI model.
The key caveat is in the wording: the mechanism provides an estimate, not a ruling. It can indicate that Claude is probably the author of a given text, but it does not offer proof in the strict sense. That distinction matters for anyone who might be tempted to treat a detection result as final.
What it means for users
People who use Claude to draft articles, emails, reports or marketing copy should expect that such output may become easier to recognise as machine-generated. Watermarking and similar labelling techniques are intended to add transparency, for example for teachers, editors and employers who want to know how a document was produced.
At the same time, probabilistic detection has limits. A text that has been heavily edited, or a human-written text that happens to resemble AI output, could lead to misleading results. Anyone relying on such a tool should treat its output as one signal among several rather than as evidence on its own.
What comes next
The expanded coverage starts on 3 November. Further details on how broadly the marking applies and how reliable the estimates are will determine how much practical weight the tool carries in schools, newsrooms and workplaces. For now, the main message is that AI-generated material from Claude is becoming more traceable, and that users should be aware of it.
