Viridi raises €2.6 million to turn waste CO2 into chemicals
British deeptech Viridi has closed a €2.6 million (£2.2 million) round led by Odyssey Ventures to scale its technology that converts waste carbon dioxide into chemical products.
British deeptech company Viridi has closed a €2.6 million (£2.2 million) funding round to scale its technology, strengthen its team and support expansion into Asia and the US. The startup, based in Southampton, converts waste carbon dioxide into chemical products.
The round was led by Odyssey Ventures, with co-investment from Alphatron Impact Ventures and follow-on commitments from existing backers.
Why it matters
Carbon dioxide is usually treated as an emissions problem to be captured and stored. Viridi's approach treats it as a raw material, turning it into chemicals that can end up in everyday products. That could give industrial emitters a way to reduce their footprint while creating a usable output, rather than only a disposal cost.
The company says the new money will go towards three priorities: scaling the technology itself, growing the team, and opening up markets outside the UK. Asia and the US are named as the targets for expansion.
What comes next
For now, the funding gives Viridi room to move from development towards wider deployment. Further details, such as the specific products, pilot customers or timelines, were not disclosed in the announcement.
