Titan OS raises €40 million to challenge Roku in smart TVs

Barcelona-based Titan OS has secured a €40 million ($46 million) round to develop its smart TV operating system, backed by Highland Europe, Mangrove and BlackRock.

Titan OS, a Barcelona-based technology, entertainment and advertising company, has announced a €40 million ($46 million) financing round to further develop its smart TV operating system.

The round includes participation from existing investors Highland Europe and Mangrove Capital Partners. It also features a credit facility from funds and accounts managed by BlackRock, combining equity backing with debt financing.

An alternative in a crowded market

Titan OS positions its platform as an alternative to established smart TV systems such as Roku. The funding is earmarked for the continued development of the operating system, which runs on connected televisions and sits at the center of how viewers find content and how advertisers reach them.

The company describes itself as a technology, entertainment and advertising business, reflecting the dual role that TV platforms now play: they serve as the interface for streaming services and as an advertising channel.

Why it matters

The smart TV operating system layer is dominated by a small number of large players, and television makers are looking for options. A well-funded European contender adds competition at a level that shapes which apps, content and ads viewers see on their screens.

The involvement of repeat investors Highland Europe and Mangrove Capital Partners signals continued confidence in the company, while the BlackRock credit facility adds non-dilutive capital to the mix.

The announcement follows an earlier funding step by the company. Further details, such as the round's allocation or new device partnerships, were not part of the announcement.
