Microsoft Ends Copilot Support on Smart TVs, Starting With LG
Microsoft is discontinuing Copilot on all smart TVs during 2026. LG has already warned webOS owners that the feature may stop working shortly.

Microsoft is pulling the plug on Copilot for smart TVs. LG has begun notifying owners of webOS televisions that the AI assistant will no longer be supported on any compatible set, regardless of brand or model.
The pop-up message reads: "Microsoft recently decided to end support for Copilot operation on all TVs, including the feature available on our LG TVs. As a result, the Copilot-enabled feature on your TV is no longer available and may stop working shortly." The notice adds that Microsoft plans to discontinue the function during 2026. With only two months left in the year, removal could come within weeks, although no exact date has been given.
A short life after a rocky start
The shutdown arrives less than a year after Copilot reached televisions. Microsoft and several major TV makers drew criticism for putting the assistant on sets without asking and without a way to remove it.
LG responded at the time that what appeared on its TVs was not a full app but a shortcut that opened Copilot in the television's browser. The company acknowledged it could not initially be deleted and said it was working on options to allow removal. Samsung also took part in the arrangement with Microsoft, so the change is not limited to LG.
Part of a wider retreat
The move fits a broader pattern. Microsoft appears to be dialing back its push to place Copilot in every product and service it can, whether its own or from third parties. Besides televisions, the same easing is visible on Xbox and Windows 11.
For TV owners, the practical effect is simple: the Copilot shortcut will stop working and then disappear, with no action required. Those annoyed by preinstalled AI features on their sets will see at least one of them go away.
