LINE Adds Passkey Login to Simplify Switching Phones
LINE Yahoo is rolling out passkey support in the LINE app, letting users sign in with biometrics instead of a password and move accounts to a new phone more easily.

LINE Yahoo has begun a phased rollout of passkey support in the LINE messaging app. Passkeys let users sign in with biometric authentication instead of typing a password. The feature is available in LINE app version 26.17.0 and later.
Passkeys are spreading as a more secure replacement for passwords. For LINE, the company is stressing a practical benefit: an easier migration when users change devices.
Fewer hurdles when changing phones
When someone replaces a smartphone, or loses or breaks it, the LINE account has to be transferred to the new device. With the traditional password method, some users got stuck during this step, for example because they had forgotten their password. According to the company, setting up a passkey in advance reduces that worry.
With a passkey registered beforehand, users can log in to LINE on a new smartphone using the device's own biometrics, such as face or fingerprint recognition.
Switching between iPhone and Android
The company says the approach also works when moving between operating systems. Users who switch between iPhone and Android can copy their registered passkey between iCloud Keychain and Google Password Manager before changing phones. After the switch, they can log in to LINE even if the old device is no longer at hand.
For users, the practical takeaway is to update the app to version 26.17.0 or newer and set up a passkey before any planned device change. Because the rollout is gradual, the option may not appear for everyone at the same time.
