ediviewer brings its EDI file reader to Mac and Windows
The desktop app from the makers of ediviewer.net opens UN/EDIFACT and ANSI X12 files and explains every segment in plain language. It is on the Mac App Store and Microsoft Store.

ediviewer, the desktop version of the browser-based ediviewer.net, is now available on the Mac App Store (version 2.0, one-time purchase) and in the Microsoft Store under the name "EDI File Viewer and Editor". The app opens UN/EDIFACT and ANSI X12 messages and explains each segment in plain language, so users no longer need to count plus signs and colons to decode a message.
Reading EDI like a document
Every EDIFACT segment is explained, including parties, dates, quantities, prices, taxes, packaging and references. Qualifiers and code lists are translated: NAD+BY becomes "Buyer" and DTM+137 becomes "Document date". Dates are formatted and amounts are shown with their currency. The editor offers syntax highlighting, line numbers and instant re-parsing as you type, and a "About this segment" link leads to a free reference for segments such as UNB, UNH, BGM, NAD, LIN, QTY and MOA.
Conversion and export
The app converts EDI to JSON and XML and back again. According to the developer, conversion is lossless: separators, escape characters, UNA and line endings are preserved, and each conversion is verified byte by byte. Optional annotations add segment descriptions for developers, APIs and integration tests.
ORDERS, ORDRSP, ORDCHG, DESADV, RECADV, INVOIC, REMADV, DELJIT, IFTMIN and SLSRPT messages can be exported as clean, printable PDFs. SLSRPT sales reports and PRICAT price catalogs can be exported to Excel (CSV).
Who it is for
The app targets EDI analysts, SAP and ERP consultants, integration developers, and supply chain, purchasing, logistics and accounting teams who check orders, invoices and despatch advices or inspect EDI mappings. It ships with 15 sample messages, including a full supplier-to-retailer story (order, despatch advice, invoice and payment advice) and ANSI X12 850, 810, 856 and 997. Multiple tabs, light and dark themes and drag-and-drop of .edi files are supported.
On privacy, files never leave the computer, and there are no accounts, uploads or tracking. The interface is available in German, English, Turkish, French, Spanish, Italian and Simplified Chinese. The app supports UN/EDIFACT (D.96A, D.01B and others) and ANSI ASC X12, and is developed by Metin Karaduman.
