Claude Max 20x Becomes Ultra, With 5-Hour Limit Removed

Anthropic has renamed its paid Claude plans and removed the five-hour usage limit for verified Ultra accounts. The former Max 5x plan is now simply Max, while Max 20x becomes Ultra. Prices are unchanged: Max costs $100 per month and Ultra costs $200.

According to the company, existing subscribers don't need to take any action. The subscription contents are otherwise largely the same, but Ultra users can now work at their own pace within their weekly limit instead of being held to a cap that resets every five hours. Weekly limits remain unchanged.

Who gets the change

The removal of the 5-hour limit started on the day of the announcement for most existing subscribers. Newer accounts keep a temporary limit until they are verified, which Anthropic says helps it prevent fraud and abuse. Subscribers will receive an email once the limit is lifted on their account.

What each plan offers

Max is aimed at people who use Claude frequently and handle many tasks. It provides five times the usage of the Pro plan in each five-hour window, access to the higher-tier Fable model, and a monthly Claude API credit.

Ultra also includes a monthly Claude API credit and drops the five-hour restriction for verified accounts.

Why it matters

For heavy users, the five-hour window has been the most visible constraint on long working sessions. Removing it for Ultra subscribers makes the $200 tier more attractive to people who run extended or irregular workloads, while the weekly ceiling still caps total consumption. The rename also simplifies the lineup, replacing multiplier-based labels with plain tier names.

Anthropic has not announced changes to pricing or to the weekly limits, and subscribers can review the plan details on the company's plans page.
