ChatGPT to merge its Chat and Work tabs into a single interface
OpenAI is preparing to fold ChatGPT's Chat and Work tabs into one experience, letting users move from brainstorming to task execution without switching views.

OpenAI is preparing to combine the Chat and Work tabs in ChatGPT into a single experience. Users will be able to go from discussing an idea or drafting content to handing the app a project that involves files, apps and websites, without jumping between two separate interfaces.
The company informed some users of the change by email and said the new experience will first reach a limited group, so it can collect feedback before a wider rollout. The merge does not mean every account has it today: the deployment is gradual.
Fewer hand-offs between asking and doing
The update aims to remove the divide between asking ChatGPT for help and assigning it work with multiple steps. Examples include building a website, preparing a presentation or working with a user's files, as well as using connected apps and carrying out actions on the web.
Under the described approach, a user can start with a question or a rough idea, then direct ChatGPT to carry on with the execution and review the results as the task progresses. That should cut down on re-explaining context when moving from conversation to work.
Codex stays separate, usage limits may shift
Codex will remain a separate experience inside the ChatGPT desktop app. That suggests OpenAI does not plan, at this stage, to put all coding and work functions on one screen.
OpenAI also said that ChatGPT and Codex will draw on a shared pool of tokens, the processing units that meter usage. The company said this will not affect most users, but some may reach their usage limits faster, depending on the model they choose and the kind of work they do.
For people who already use ChatGPT for both planning and production, the change could make everyday workflows smoother. Those who run heavy tasks on Codex alongside ChatGPT are the ones most likely to notice the shared token balance. OpenAI has not detailed a timeline for the broader release.
