ArtCraft: AI-Built Clone Takes On Photoshop and PowerPoint

The ArtCraft project, created through vibe coding, imitates Photoshop, PowerPoint and similar tools. The question is what such AI copies can really do.

A new project called ArtCraft is drawing attention as an AI-built imitation of well-known creative software. According to its description, it emerged through so-called vibe coding and mimics applications such as Photoshop and PowerPoint.

Vibe coding refers to developing software largely by instructing an AI model in natural language, rather than writing every line of code by hand. ArtCraft is an example of how far that approach can go when the goal is to recreate the look and basic behavior of established products.

What AI copies can and cannot do

The central question is how capable these clones actually are. Reproducing an interface and a handful of familiar functions is one thing. Matching the depth, reliability and workflow integration of products like Photoshop, which have been refined over many years, is another. A recent podcast discussion examined exactly this gap between impressive demos and everyday usefulness.

For users, the project is a test case rather than an immediate replacement. Anyone considering an alternative to Adobe's tools should look closely at which features they need, how stable the software is and how it handles their files before drawing conclusions.

Why it matters

If working imitations of complex applications can be produced with comparatively little effort, that raises questions for established software vendors and for the open-source scene alike. It lowers the barrier to building alternatives, but it does not by itself answer questions about quality, maintenance and long-term support.

ArtCraft will likely serve as a reference point in the debate over how much of professional software can be reproduced by AI-assisted development, and where human engineering remains decisive.
