Apple Plans Three New iPads for Early 2027: Base, Air and Pro
Apple is reportedly preparing refreshes of the base iPad, iPad Air and iPad Pro for early 2027, with an OLED Air, an A19 base model and a cooler-running Pro.

Apple is preparing three new iPads for the start of 2027, according to current information: updates to the base model, the iPad Air and the iPad Pro. The launches follow a busy year in which the company introduced the iPhone 18 lineup, a foldable iPhone Duo, a MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display, an OLED iPad mini and new AirPods.
iPad Air gets OLED
The biggest change is expected for the iPad Air, which is set to receive an OLED display. Apple will likely keep the refresh rate capped at 60 Hz, and Touch ID is expected to stay rather than give way to Face ID. The chip remains an open question, though a move to the faster M5 looks probable. The base 11-inch model is expected to cost between $799 and $899.
A faster base iPad and a cooler Pro
The entry-level iPad has not been refreshed since 2025. The new version is said to use the Apple A19 chip with 8 GB of RAM, along with the company's N1 and C1X connectivity modules. Design and display are not expected to change, so this will essentially be the same tablet, only faster.
The iPad Pro is slated to get a new cooling system with a vapor chamber and a more powerful Apple M6 chip. An M7 is also mentioned, but that option seems unlikely. Beyond those upgrades, no major changes are anticipated.
What it means
For buyers, the Air's move to OLED is the main reason to watch the launch, while the base iPad offers a straightforward performance upgrade without a redesign. Apple is expected to present all three models in early 2027, although the company has not confirmed the details.
